Our team has been generating scientific knowledge about giant otters for more than fifteen years (publications) and many of these studies are the backbone for Brazilian and Global Conservation Plans for giant otters.
In the past, many researchers were working alone which caused a lot of the information to be absent or only accessible by the academy. With the aim of combining efforts to guarantee that the scientific knowledge generates practical actions for conservation, we created the “Giant Otter Project” or “Projeto Ariranhas”.
We are a group of professionals that have a common mission to assure the conservation of giant otters. Using scientific knowledge and citizen science we hope to mitigate problems that threaten the species. We are creating and applying strategies to conserve and protect giant otters and providing the education to reduce conflicts.
